Smart Security and Access Control in Sydney

Most homes end up with security in pieces. A few cameras here, a doorbell there, a separate app for the front door lock, and none of them talking to each other. Smart security and access control pulls all of it together, so your cameras, smart locks, video doorbells, intercoms and sensors run as one connected system you control from a single app.

Birch Tech has installed CCTV across Sydney for years, and this is the natural next step. We carry a Master Security Licence, so security work is handled properly, and we extend that into integrated, app-controlled, automated systems that do far more than record.

More Than Cameras

A camera on its own tells you what happened. An integrated system lets you act. See who is at the door and speak to them from your phone, unlock the gate for a delivery, get an alert the moment motion is detected in a particular zone, and check that every door is locked before bed without leaving the couch.

Because every device shares the one app, you are not juggling logins or guessing which gadget controls what. It is one screen for your whole property, whether you are home, at work or away.

Access Control That Works For You

Smart locks and access control change how people come and go. You can grant access to family, hand a temporary code to a tradesperson and revoke it later, and see a clear record of who entered and when. No more cutting keys or wondering who still has one.

Paired with video intercoms and doorbells, you decide who gets in before the door ever opens. It is convenient day to day and genuinely useful when you are not there.

Automation and Alerts

The real power is in the rules. Motion at the back gate after dark can switch on a light, start recording and send you a notification, all at once. A door left unlocked can prompt a reminder. You choose which events matter so the system stays helpful rather than noisy, and it reacts on your behalf instead of just logging events for later.

We can also fold your security into a wider home dashboard, so it sits alongside lighting and other smart devices in one place.

FAQs

Smart Security & Access Control in Sydney — FAQs

How is this different from a basic CCTV system?

A basic CCTV system records footage you review later. Smart security and access control connects your cameras with smart locks, video doorbells, intercoms and sensors so they work as one system in a single app. You get live alerts as things happen, can unlock a door or speak to a visitor remotely, and can set automation rules, for example motion at the back gate switching on a light. It turns passive recording into active, app-controlled security.

Are smart locks actually secure?

Quality smart locks are designed to be at least as secure as a good traditional deadlock, with encrypted communication and tamper alerts, and many keep a physical key as a backup. The security of any lock also depends on correct installation and a well-set-up system, which is where a licensed installer matters. We fit reputable locks, configure them properly and can set alerts so you know if a door is left unlocked or opened unexpectedly.

Can I view my cameras and control entry from my phone?

Yes. We configure the system so you can watch live and recorded footage, lock or unlock doors, answer the video doorbell and check who has entered, all from your smartphone wherever you have an internet connection. This lets you keep an eye on your home and manage access whether you are at work, away or simply in another room.

Will I get alerts and notifications?

Yes. We can set up notifications for the events that matter to you, such as motion in a specific zone, a doorbell press, a door being unlocked or a camera detecting a person. You choose which alerts you want so you stay informed without being buried in pointless notifications. Alerts can also be tied to automation rules so the system responds as well as notifies you.

Can you integrate with my existing cameras?

Often, yes. Whether your current cameras can join an integrated, app-controlled system depends on their make, model and how they connect. During the assessment we check what you have and advise honestly on what can be integrated as-is, what may need a hub or recorder change, and what is better replaced. The goal is to reuse what works and avoid spending on gear you do not need.

Is smart security legal in NSW, and what about my neighbours?

Recording video on your own property is generally lawful in NSW, but there are limits. Cameras should not be deliberately aimed to capture inside a neighbour's home or private areas, and you should be mindful of footage that takes in the street or adjoining property. Signage advising that recording is in operation is good practice. Audio recording is more tightly regulated under surveillance and listening device laws, so capturing conversations can raise legal issues. We position devices sensibly, but for anything sensitive we recommend confirming your obligations.

Does it work with Apple Home, Google Home or Matter?

We design ecosystem-neutral systems and work with widely supported platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home and Matter-compatible devices. Which features are available depends on the specific products chosen, so during the design we match your preferred platform with devices that support it. We are not tied to any single brand, so our advice is about what genuinely works best for your home rather than pushing one ecosystem.

What happens during a power or internet outage?

Behaviour depends on the equipment. Many cameras and recorders keep recording locally during an internet outage and sync once the connection returns, though live remote viewing and cloud alerts pause until you are back online. A power outage stops mains-powered devices unless there is battery backup, while many smart locks and some doorbells run on batteries and keep working. We can discuss backup options such as a UPS so the parts you care about most stay running.

Can it trigger lights or other devices on motion?

Yes, that is one of the main advantages of an integrated system. We can set rules so that motion detected by a camera or sensor switches on lights, starts recording, sends an alert or activates other connected devices. This is great for deterrence and convenience, for example lighting a pathway as someone approaches the front door at night. The rules are tailored to how you want your home to respond.

Do you offer warranty and support?

Yes. Our installation work is carried out by licensed, insured, police-checked technicians, and the devices we supply carry their manufacturer warranties. If anything plays up after installation, our local Sydney team is on hand to help, and we offer 24/7 availability. Get in touch and we will sort it out.
