Many people worry that setting up  Foxtel in more than one room might be illegal. That isn’t the case. Although setting up more than one box does come with a range of advantages and disadvantages. Long term it will save you money, but you need a little bit of outlay first.

There are a few ways that you can get Foxtel in more than one room in your home. You will need to consider your requirements before deciding.

HDMI Cabling

This is the cheapest and most simple way. Run an HDMI lead from one Foxtel box to the second TV. It does present limits, and you will need further pieces of equipment. Splitting the signal from your Foxtel box will require an HDMI splitter. This will be placed in the HDMI input in the back of your Foxtel box. Foxtel boxes only have one HDMI port.

The main advantage is that you will get high-quality images and sound, and it is the cheapest solution. The downside is that each TV will be showing the same program. Not only that but HDMI has a limit of 20 meters, and beyond that, it will degrade the signal.

Mixing It With The TV Antenna

Some of the issues that are presented in the first option disappear with this option. You will mix the Foxtel box with the TV antenna. Once the Foxtel box is mixed with the TV antenna through a digital modulator, you will be able to watch the Foxtel box on other TVs.

The advantages are that you will not be limited by distance, and the signal can be sent to all the TVs in the home. The disadvantages are there is no built-in option to change the channels from the second room without the need to buy more equipment. The HDMI modulator will cost more than an AV modulator, and there will be a noticeable difference between the SD and HD quality.

HDMI and CAT6 Data Cables

This option solves all of the issues faced by option one and two. There are many advantages to this option.

If you only need to transmit the Foxtel to one room, then the HDMI and Foxtel box can be mixed to a single data cable – which can be up to 70 meters away.

Further to this, we can locate all of your Foxtel boxes into a single cabinet safely out of sight. It can then be expanded to run up to 8 devices.

The only disadvantage to this option is that if you have an older TV connection, the matrix will scale down the image to suit the oldest TV in your property. Once you have all of your TVs HD, your matrix will transmit in full HD.
