When installing a TV wall mount, you may be a little worried about your stunning flatscreen TV staying put. If you do a bit of DIY here and there, you should find installing a TV wall mount relatively simple. The most crucial aspect in securing the wall mount and keeping your TV safe is using the correct fasteners for your wall. Take a look at our simple step by step process to help you successfully mount your TV to your wall.

How To Install A TV Wall Mount

  1. Always check the manual of your flatscreen TV. Here, you’ll find some specific guidance on how to mount a TV bracket to the rear of your television screen. Follow the directions carefully but make sure that you don’t over tighten any screws that you use.
  2. Choose the location where you want to mount your TV. Are you looking at the space above your fireplace on a chimney breast? Will you be mounting onto bare brick? Or are you looking at a plasterboard wall? Each wall surface will require a specific set of screws and fasteners. If you are mounting your TV to a plasterboard wall, try to locate any wall studs with a studfinder. You could use these to fix wood screws into. If the wall studs don’t allow for the ideal positioning of your TV, don’t worry – you can still get your TV mounted securely.
  3. Once your prime spot is finalised, it’s time to mount the wall bracket to your TV bracket. Measure the distance from the top of the wall bracket to the top of the screen and mark on your wall where you want the top of the screen to be mounted.
  4. Decide where you want the wall bracket to be placed and mark this on your wall. Don’t forget to use a spirit level to ensure your TV will be straight and true. Mark where your screws will be needed.
  5. If your screws aren’t going into wall studs, you will need to purchase plasterboard anchors to secure your TV.
  6. Before fixing your wall bracket using your pencilled in markings, you need to sort your cabling. Install the wiring and appropriate covers near your cabling outlets. If you aren’t confident with this, ensure that you get a professional in to sort out your wiring.
  7. Nearly there! Use your pencilled markings to screw and anchor your wall bracket to your wall. Double check your measurements before you start any drilling. Once your wall bracket is secured, carefully slide your flatscreen TV with the attached TV bracket into the wall bracket. The fit should be reassuringly snug.
